The sound sculptures of artist and industrial designer Harry Bertoia are on display at the Allentown Art Museum through January 7

Harry Bertoia spent more than a decade creating works of art that were also musical instruments.  Bertoia’s fascination with the interaction of metal and air began when a piece of a welding rod he was bending flew across the studio, making a unique sound upon striking another piece of metal.   This intriguing sound inspired Bertoia’s series of innovative sculptures which explore the relationship between form and sound.
